Azeez Fashola, better known by his stage name Naira Marley, is a Nigerian singer and the head of Marlian Records. He has denied the claims against him in connection with the death of Afrobeats artist Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad), claiming that he was overseas at the time of the September 2023 event.

The musician said in an hour-long video posted on Tuesday that he was in Amsterdam at the time of Mohbad's passing and found out about it via social media.

"They (the police) have no justification for holding me for this long in a working nation, and I'm not there. I traveled to Nigeria to assist with the investigation because I was blamed, so that people would see I wasn't involved. "They took away my passport when I returned to Nigeria after spending two months in Panti," Marley stated, indicating that he was without a passport.

When Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, it sparked outrage, protests, and demands for justice across the country.

His family has questioned the validity of the autopsy and demanded an independent study after his body was later unearthed for the purpose, although the cause of death has not been confirmed.

Marley, Sam Larry, and other people have been taken into custody by the Lagos State Police, but no concrete proof has been shown in court.

Instead of pursuing him and his partner, Sam Larry, Naira Marley argued that investigators ought to focus on individuals who were present during his last hours.

"The police had no grounds to arrest me; if our society were healthy, they would have detained everyone who was with him for 24 to 48 hours prior to his death. I don't get it. I'm not in the nation at all. Additionally, old videos of him and Sam Larry was released. At the time, Sam Larry wasn't in the nation," he stated.

Marley claimed that websites and social media platforms were compensated to disseminate false information about him and Sam Larry, including brief clips that portrayed him as violent.

He continued by saying that he and his loved ones had not had time to grieve because of the response, saying, "We didn't have time to mourn Mohbad properly."

Marley demanded a fresh, unbiased inquiry into Mohbad's death rather than sidestepping the probe."If you ask me, I'll tell the police to arrest everyone else, including a police officer we can trust," he stated.

Speaking about Label Disputes

Speaking about the alleged mistreatment, Marley disclosed that he had a 50/50 profit-sharing arrangement with Mohbad and that the pact came with hefty costs. He claimed that while requesting additional money, Mohbad once stole $72,000 from him.

The principal of the school continued by asserting that he was in charge and that the royalties were allocated equitably. Speaking about Mohbad's drug fight, Marlian's record label claimed that the late singer used the dangerous substance "Ice," which made him belligerent, hostile, and even suicidal. According to Marley, Mohbad attempted to jump from a building at one point and had to be taken into custody during that event.

According to him, these words are often mistaken for abuses based on the labels.
