Buhari’s Funeral: Tinubu, Daura, and Other African Leaders Confirm Attendance

Katsina receives the body at midday for the funeral at 2:00 pm.

The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari will be received by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today in Daura, Katsina State.

He passed away on Sunday in London, UK, and his remains are scheduled to arrive there.

At midday, the body will be flown to Katsina Airport in the capital city of Katsina by Vice President Kashim Shettima and family members. From there, it will be transported by helicopter to Daura.

After leaving office on May 29, 2023, Buhari retired to his birthplace of Daura.

At 2:00 pm, his funeral is scheduled to take place inside his humble home in the community.

previous Niger Republic President Mahamadou Issoufou, along with other current and previous African leaders, will join President Tinubu for the solemn funeral ritual in accordance with Islamic customs.

According to sources close to the burial committee, as of last night, several leaders who expressed interest in attending the Janaza prayers were anticipated to confirm their attendance.

There will be at least 25 ministers present during the event.

Leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives, governors, prominent traditional leaders from throughout the nation, corporate executives, and other high-ranking governmental and private people will be present.

Last night, the little town of Daura was overrun by people.

However, the Talakawa, the oppressed Nigerians who formed the core of Buhari's political base, might not be able to attend the funeral due to the strict security anticipated for the event.

Beginning with the body's welcome at the Katsina airport, a full military honor is anticipated during the event.

Buhari, a general in the Nigerian Army, held two positions as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces: President from 2015 to 2023 and military head of state from January 1, 1985, to August 27, 1985.

The Federal Government has honored the former leader in a number of ways since Buhari's passing.

Flags would fly at half-staff for seven days of mourning, as announced by President Tinubu.

In order to retrieve the body and family members, including the widow Aisha, he sent Femi Gbajabiamila, the Vice President and Chief of Staff, to London.

To commemorate Buhari's last departure, the nation is marking a national holiday today.

The burial is being organized by an 18-member interministerial committee under the direction of Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

Ministers Wale Edun (Finance), Senator Atiku Bagudu (Budget and Economic Planning), Abubakar Badaru (Defense), Dave Umahi (Works), Mohammed Idris (Information and National Orientation), Bunmi Ojo (Interior), Nyesom Wike (Federal Capital Territory (FCT), National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Mr. Tosin Ajayi, and Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa are among the group's representatives.

"President Tinubu has also directed all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers at the entrance of their offices for the public to pay their respects in honor of the late President Buhari," Idris stated yesterday.
